What is Waterwise Ways for WA?

The two day a week Integrated Water Supply Scheme sprinkler rosters were accepted by householders and the Garden Industry as sensible measures to assist with managing the effects of drier winters in recent years. This resulted in the view that watering rosters should become a permanent feature of scheme water management in Western Australia, and the use of groundwater from private bores should also become more water efficient to conserve our precious resource.

The new water efficiency measures included implementing a permanent watering day roster for scheme water users across Western Australia. The creation of two permanent state-wide watering roster zones – defined by one east-west boundary line on a map of Western Australia below Kalbarri and Kalgoorlie came into effect on 1 October 2007. The consideration of appropriate watering rosters for scheme water users state-wide is based on regional soil, climate and garden needs coupled with sound watering practices. All communities in Western Australia south of Kalbarri and Kalgoorlie are subject to a two day per week watering roster. All communities in Western Australia north of Kalbarri and Kalgoorlie are subject to an alternate day watering roster.

The measures also included the introduction of a three day a week watering roster for garden bores in the Perth Region (Perth and Mandurah).

The water efficiency measures also include a state-wide daytime sprinkler ban for all local government and government departments. The daytime sprinkler ban reinforces the need of long term need water conservation.
